U.S. Dog Food Recalls in 2026: Complete Year-to-Date List, Brands, Lots & Safety Details

Last fact-checked: September 26, 2026.

Important: This is a year-to-date 2026 recall tracker. The year is not over, and new recalls, expansions, classifications, or terminations may occur after publication. Always compare the exact product name, package size, UPC, lot or batch code, and best-by date on your package with the current FDA or manufacturer notice.

Dog food recall headlines can be confusing. A headline may refer to an entire brand even when only one lot is affected. An FDA advisory may be mistaken for a recall. A product with a 2026 expiration date may actually have been recalled in 2025. And some genuine recalls appear in the FDA Enforcement Report without receiving a separate consumer press release.

To make this guide more useful, Dog Food Scout reviewed FDA recall announcements, FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine advisories, FDA Enforcement Report records, manufacturer notices, and supporting recall records. Dog treats, puppy milk replacers, and dietary supplements are listed separately so they are not silently counted as complete dog foods.

Veterinary notice: This article is for recall identification and general safety information. It does not diagnose illness or replace veterinary care. If your dog ate a recalled product and is sick—or you are concerned about the amount consumed—contact your veterinarian.
15 Dog-food or dog-relevant pet-food recall events identified
10 Main events involving bacterial contamination
3 Main foreign-material recall events
2 Separate 2026 dog-treat recall events

The 15-event count treats the January/May Raaw Energy actions as one developing recall event and does not count dog treats, canine milk replacers, or dog supplements as standard dog-food recalls. GreenTripe's recalled stuffed cow hoof is part of the same GreenTripe recall event as its Xkaliber dog food and is not double-counted.

Why this list is longer than some recall websites: Several 2026 pet-food recalls were recorded through FDA's Enforcement Report system without a normal consumer press release. FDA explains that an Enforcement Report can contain Class I, II, III, and not-yet-classified recalls, and that firms may begin a recall before FDA classification is completed.

Detailed 2026 Dog Food Recall Information

1. Raaw Energy Frozen Dog Food

Initial FDA advisory: January 23, 2026
Recall initiation: January 26, 2026
Major expansion: May 22, 2026
Hazards: Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella and Campylobacter jejuni were identified in initial samples

This was one of the broadest dog-food safety actions of 2026. FDA initially warned consumers on January 23 after eight samples of Raaw Energy dog food tested positive for one or more harmful bacteria, including Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella, and Campylobacter jejuni.

The samples were collected during follow-up to a consumer complaint involving dog illness. FDA stated that all eight unopened samples collected by Connecticut and New Jersey authorities tested positive for pathogenic bacteria.

On May 22, the company announced a much broader recall covering dog food manufactured between July 17, 2025 and December 23, 2025, plus a March 31, 2026 Beef and Turkey Medley batch. FDA reported that the number of recalled lots had increased to more than 180.

FDA also reported that four additional New Jersey Department of Agriculture samples from the recall period tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes, and that FDA had received additional complaints of animal illness following the original January advisory.

Packaging: Frozen food in 2-pound and 5-pound clear plastic tubes, generally sold in brown cardboard boxes.

Distribution: FDA identified customers in Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Important lot warning: Because this expanded recall includes more than 180 date-coded lots, Dog Food Scout recommends using the complete FDA product table rather than relying on a shortened list reproduced by another website.

What consumers should do: Stop feeding affected food. FDA advises secure disposal where pets, children and wildlife cannot reach it, followed by cleaning and disinfection of bowls, storage containers, utensils, food-preparation surfaces, floors and refrigerator/freezer surfaces that contacted the food.

2. Young Again Core Health Dog Food

Recall initiated: February 18, 2026
Recalling firm: Pretty Bird International, Inc.
Reason: Presumptive positive Salmonella testing
Distribution: Nationwide

The recall covers Young Again Core Health Dog Food, Medium–Large Dog & Puppy Formula for breeds 30 pounds and up.

SizeUPCBest By
10 lb7 16432-92570102826 / October 28, 2026
25 lb7 16432-92574 2102826 / October 28, 2026

FDA Enforcement Report data list approximately 4,375 pounds of product and describe the reason as a presumptive positive Salmonella result. The firm initially notified consignees by email, and a conventional public recall press release was not issued.

This illustrates why checking only FDA's consumer-facing recall-news page can miss some legitimate recall actions.

FDA Enforcement Event: Event 98465

3. Farmina N&D Tropical Selection — Labeling Recall

Recall initiated: March 25, 2026
Company: Farmina Pet Food USA LLC
FDA classification: Class III
Reason: Mislabeled product

The affected product was Farmina N&D Tropical Selection Salmon, Spelt, Oats and Tropical Fruits Recipe Dog Food in 22-pound bags.

  • UPC: 8010276042385
  • Lot: 25260A3453
  • Expiration: 2027/3 17
  • Distribution: Illinois, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Tennessee

The recall record states that the front of the package identified the formula as salmon while the ingredient panel on the back listed lamb. FDA classified the recall as Class III, meaning use of or exposure to the violative product was not likely to cause adverse health consequences.

For dogs being fed a carefully controlled protein diet, accurate labeling can still be important. However, the enforcement information reviewed does not clearly establish whether this was solely a printing error or whether the food itself differed from the front-panel description.

Quantity-data caution: Public mirrors of the FDA enforcement record have displayed inconsistent parsing of the product quantity. Dog Food Scout therefore does not publish a precise number of bags here.

FDA Enforcement Event: Event 98645

4. Albright's Raw Pet Food Chicken Recipe for Dogs

Company announcement: May 6, 2026
FDA posting: May 7, 2026
Reason: Potential Salmonella contamination

The voluntary recall covered one lot of Albright's Raw Pet Food Chicken Recipe for Dogs Complete and Balanced.

  • Package: Frozen 1-pound brick/pouch, generally distributed in 30-pound cases
  • UPC: 20855404008367
  • Lot: C001730
  • Best By: April 28, 2027

The company said routine FDA sampling identified Salmonella in a composite product sample. At the time of the announcement, the pathogen load had not been quantified and third-party confirmatory testing was still pending.

The recalled lot was distributed directly nationwide and through selected retailers in Massachusetts, California, South Carolina, North Carolina, Wisconsin and New York, including online distribution.

No pet or human illnesses were reported in connection with the recalled lot at the time of the announcement.

5. AllProvide Gently Cooked Chicken Recipe for Dogs

Recall initiated: May 11, 2026
Food type: Frozen, gently cooked
Reason: Potential plastic foreign material

AllProvide recalled specific batches of its Gently Cooked Chicken Recipe for Dogs after a customer complaint identified potential foreign material.

  • Package: 1 lb / 16 oz vacuum-sealed package
  • UPC: 859125005809
  • Best By: August 1, 2027
  • Distribution dates: February 23 through May 1, 2026
  • Distribution: Nationwide
  • Approximate quantity: 1,500 pounds

Affected batches: 048-01, 048-2, 048-3, 048-4, 048-5, 048-6, 048-7, 048-8, 048-9, 048-10, 048-11, 048-12, 048-13 and 048-14.

Potential plastic pieces can create choking, oral-injury, or gastrointestinal risks. The company stated that no other AllProvide products were affected by this recall.

Consumer contact: 678-585-1606 or management@allprovide.com.

This event was reported through FDA Enforcement Report information rather than a standard FDA consumer recall press release.

6. Montgomery Meats / My Pet Carnivore / The Butcher's Hound

Recall initiated: May 13, 2026
Reason: Potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination
Distribution: Nationwide

This FDA enforcement event covered eight frozen raw pet-food products manufactured by Montgomery Meats and sold under the My Pet Carnivore and The Butcher's Hound names.

ProductSizeAffected production/lot range
My Pet Carnivore Coarse Ground Whole Goat 2 lb 20260309–20260313 and 20260330–20260403
My Pet Carnivore Coarse Ground Whole Mutton 2 lb 20260316–20260320
My Pet Carnivore Coarse Ground Whole Lamb 2 lb 20260323–20260327
My Pet Carnivore Fine Ground Whole Mutton 1 lb 20260122–20260127
The Butcher's Hound Ground Whole Pork 3 lb 20260330–20260403
The Butcher's Hound Turkey B.A.R.F. Blend 3 lb 20260216–20260220
The Butcher's Hound Ground Whole Chicken 3 lb 20260302–20260306
The Butcher's Hound Beef & Turkey Blend 5 lb 20260302–20260306 and 20260323–20260327

The public enforcement information identifies Listeria monocytogenes as the reason for recall. Because several products are labeled generally as pet food rather than dog-only food, Dog Food Scout describes this as a dog-relevant pet-food recall rather than implying every affected item was marketed exclusively for dogs.

FDA Enforcement Event: Event 98983

7. Steve's Real Food Freeze-Dried Chicken Recipe

Date: June 8, 2026
Company: Go Raw LLC
Reason: Potentially low thiamine (Vitamin B1)

Go Raw LLC expanded an earlier recall involving Quest cat food to include one lot of Steve's Real Food Chicken Recipe Freeze Dried, which is labeled for cats and dogs.

  • Size: 1.25 lb bag
  • Lot: C26022
  • Best By: January 22, 2028
UPC discrepancy in the FDA notice: The product table lists UPC 6-91730-164 02-7, while the narrative later describes the recalled package with UPC 6-91730-18103-1. Because this inconsistency appears within the FDA-posted company announcement itself, owners should prioritize lot C26022, Best By 1/22/2028, the official product photos, and confirmation from the manufacturer when identifying an affected bag.

Thiamine is an essential vitamin involved in normal energy metabolism and neurologic function. Prolonged deficiency can affect both dogs and cats, although cats have particularly high dietary requirements.

The company said the affected lot was no longer present in distribution channels when the expansion was announced, but issued the recall as a precaution.

8. Midwest Legacy Raw Beef Dog Food BLT & Bones

Recall initiated: June 16, 2026
Company: Midwest Legacy Beef, LLC
Food type: Frozen raw
Distribution: Nationwide
  • Product: Midwest Legacy Raw Beef Dog Food BLT & Bones
  • Size: 5 lb / 2.26 kg
  • UPC: 850039082429
  • Batch: A6062
  • Quantity: approximately 1,586 pounds

FDA enforcement data identified possible contamination involving Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes and E. coli. Public reproductions of the enforcement record have differed over the precise E. coli strain as the FDA data were updated, so Dog Food Scout does not assign a strain here.

The recall was later reported as an FDA Class I action. Because Enforcement Report classifications and status can change after a firm begins a recall, readers should check the live FDA event record for the current status.

FDA Enforcement Event: Event 99212

9. Doggone Raw Bosco's Blend Chicken

Recall initiated: June 18, 2026
Reason: Potential Salmonella
Distribution: One customer in New Jersey
  • Product: Bosco's Blend Chicken Doggone Raw
  • Sizes: 2 lb and 10 lb frozen white plastic tubs
  • Code information: 4 24-27
  • Approximate quantity: 40 pounds

The event was recorded through the FDA Enforcement Report rather than through a conventional FDA company-announcement page.

FDA Enforcement Event: Event 99287

10. Pedigree High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor

Date: July 2, 2026
Company: Mars Petcare US, Inc.
Reason: Potential hard and sharp metal and plastic foreign material

Mars Petcare recalled two lots of PEDIGREE Can High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor wet dog food.

  • Size: 13.2 oz can
  • Lot: 613C3KKCFC
  • Lot: 613C1KKCFC

According to the company announcement posted by FDA, the two lots had failed the company's safety and quality standards and had been sent to a third-party vendor for destruction. Mars later determined that the product appeared to have been fraudulently diverted and sold into the U.S. marketplace.

The cans may contain hard or sharp metal and plastic. Ingested foreign material may create choking, laceration or gastrointestinal-blockage risks.

No related pet illnesses or injuries had been reported when the recall was announced.

Important: Mars stated that the recall applies only to these two lot codes and that no other Pedigree or Mars Petcare U.S. products were affected by this action.

  • UPC: 858833002612
  • Lot: 201
  • Best By: July 20, 2027
  • Recall number: V-0187-2026

FDA enforcement data indicate that one 18-pound box was distributed to one customer in Illinois. The reason for recall was possible Salmonella contamination.

FDA Enforcement Event: Event 99620

12. Oma's Pride Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe

Initial announcement: August 12, 2026
Updated notice: August 17, 2026
Company: Miller Foods, Inc. / Oma's Pride
Reason: Salmonella
  • Product: Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe
  • Size: 6 lb bag containing twelve 8 oz portions
  • SKU: F-WOOFC-6
  • UPC: 8 7938400145 9
  • Lot: BB012729
  • Manufactured: January 27, 2026
  • Best By: January 27, 2029
  • Bags affected: 639

Distribution occurred between February 12 and May 15, 2026 to Arizona, California, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia through retail, wholesale and direct-to-consumer channels.

The recall followed an FDA consumer complaint and subsequent product sampling that tested positive for Salmonella.

The updated FDA-posted announcement clarified that three illnesses had been reported in dogs and no human illnesses had been reported at that time.

No other Oma's Pride products, sizes or lots were identified in this recall.

13. GreenTripe.com Xkaliber Frozen Dog Food and Stuffed Cow Hoof

Recall initiated: August 19, 2026
FDA Enforcement listing: September 22, 2026
Distribution: California, Colorado, New Mexico and Washington

The FDA enforcement event covers:

  • Xkaliber Frozen Dog Food — 1 lb, 2 lb and 5 lb rolls; production date August 11, 2026; approximately 260 rolls.
  • Stuffed Cow Hoof — 8 oz bags; production dates July 9 or July 10, 2026; approximately 48 bags.

That is approximately 308 affected units across the event.

Hazard-record discrepancy: FDA-derived public recall records consistently identify Salmonella. One public mirror of the FDA Enforcement Report also lists Listeria monocytogenes. Because the public reproductions are inconsistent, Dog Food Scout lists Salmonella as the consistently confirmed hazard and recommends checking FDA Event 99910 for the latest exact hazard wording.

The stuffed cow hoof is a treat/chew rather than complete dog food. It is mentioned again in the treat section below but is not counted as a second independent recall event.

FDA Enforcement Event: Event 99910

14. Fromm Turkey Pâté and Milo's Meatloaf Pâté

Date: August 21, 2026
Company: Fromm Family Foods LLC
Reason: Potential metal contamination

Fromm said the recall was initiated after complaints of metal contamination. The products had been distributed through pet stores and online outlets in the United States and Canada.

Potential ingested metal may cause choking, mouth or gastrointestinal injury, gastrointestinal upset, partial blockage or intestinal obstruction.

No illnesses or injuries associated with the affected products had been reported when the recall was announced.

Important: Fromm stated that no other Fromm products were affected by this recall.

2026 Canine Milk Replacer Recall

This is included because the products are fed to puppies, but Dog Food Scout does not count milk replacer as ordinary commercial dog food in the 15-event total above.

Breeder's Edge and Shelter's Choice Canine Milk Replacers

Revival Animal Health announced a recall on April 17, 2026 involving Breeder's Edge Foster Care Canine and Shelter's Choice Canine Milk Replacers because testing found inconsistent Vitamin D levels. The recall was expanded on June 25, 2026 to include certain Breeder's Edge Foster Care GM goat-milk products.

FDA's posted announcement said two complaints of rickets had been reported.

2026 Dog Supplement Recall

Fi Dog Supplements

What Do the 2026 Dog Food Recalls Show?

Within the 15 standard dog-food or dog-relevant pet-food events identified in this review:

Hazard categoryEventsExamples
Bacterial/pathogen contamination 10 Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes, Campylobacter and/or E. coli
Foreign material 3 Plastic, metal, or both
Nutrient deficiency 1 Low thiamine
Labeling/mislabeling 1 Protein-description mismatch

The food formats represented were approximately:

  • 9 frozen/raw-food events
  • 2 dry-food events
  • 2 canned/wet-food events
  • 1 freeze-dried-food event
  • 1 frozen gently cooked-food event
Do not interpret those counts as an exposure-adjusted safety study. Recall counts alone cannot establish that one feeding format or manufacturer is inherently safe or unsafe. Sales volume, sampling frequency, manufacturing scale, reporting practices, product handling, production method, distribution size, and the strength of a company's detection and traceability systems can all affect whether a problem is detected and recalled.

Why Salmonella and Listeria Matter Beyond the Dog

Pathogenic bacteria in pet food can create two different types of risk:

  • Risk to the dog: A dog may develop illness after eating contaminated food.
  • Human exposure: People can be exposed while touching contaminated food, bowls, utensils, countertops or storage containers, or through contact with an infected animal or contaminated feces.

A dog carrying Salmonella or another pathogen does not necessarily have to look sick to contaminate its environment. This is why FDA recall instructions commonly include hand washing, prompt feces cleanup, and sanitizing food bowls, utensils and storage areas.

Freezing should not be assumed to make contaminated raw food safe. FDA specifically notes that refrigeration or freezing does not eliminate Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes or Campylobacter jejuni.

Frequently Confused With a 2026 Recall — But Not a New 2026 Recall

Country Vet and Heartland Harvest Dog Biscuits

These products carry a September 6, 2026 expiration date, but the recall itself was announced on December 24, 2025. It therefore belongs in the 2025 recall record, not the 2026 recall count.

Official source: FDA Country Vet / Heartland Harvest recall

Fromm Bonnihill Farms BeefiBowls

The Bonnihill Farms BeefiBowls Beef Recipe recall involved product carrying a Best By 12/25/2026 date, but the recall was announced on December 3, 2025. It should not be counted as a 2026 recall.

Official source: FDA 2025 Bonnihill recall

Raw Bistro Grass-Fed Beef Entrée

Raw Bistro did have another dog-food recall involving Grass-Fed Beef Entrée with a Best By date in August 2026. However, that recall was announced on October 10, 2025. The separate Free Range Turkey event initiated in August 2026 is the one counted in this article.

Official source: FDA 2025 Raw Bistro Beef recall

Quest Chicken Recipe Recall

The February/March 2026 Quest Chicken Recipe recall concerned cat food and low thiamine. It is therefore not counted as a dog-food recall. The June expansion involving Steve's Real Food Chicken Recipe Freeze Dried is included because that product is labeled for cats and dogs.

How to Check Whether Your Dog Food Is Recalled

Do not rely on the brand name alone. Most recalls affect only specific production runs.

Check all of the following:

  • Brand name
  • Exact formula/product name
  • Package size
  • UPC/barcode
  • Lot, batch or date code
  • Best-by, use-by or expiration date
  • Package format — bag, can, tub, chub, pouch, frozen roll, etc.
Keep the original packaging when possible. FDA specifically recommends retaining pet-food packaging because the lot number can identify the manufacturing plant and production date and may be essential when investigating a complaint.

What to Do If You Have Recalled Dog Food

  1. Stop feeding the affected product.
  2. Check the exact recall instructions. Some companies request returns; others instruct consumers to discard the product.
  3. Do not donate or give recalled food to another person.
  4. If disposing of it, secure it so children, pets, livestock and wildlife cannot access it.
  5. Photograph the packaging, product name, UPC, lot code and best-by date before returning or discarding it.
  6. Keep receipts if available.
  7. For pathogen recalls, clean and sanitize bowls, measuring cups, utensils, storage bins, preparation surfaces and other areas that contacted the food.
  8. Wash your hands thoroughly after handling the recalled product or contaminated items.
  9. Clean up pet feces promptly when bacterial contamination is involved.
  10. Contact your veterinarian if your dog becomes ill or if you are concerned about a confirmed exposure.

When Should You Contact a Veterinarian?

Veterinary advice is especially appropriate if your dog has eaten a confirmed recalled product and develops symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, reduced appetite, fever, unusual tiredness, abdominal discomfort, choking, difficulty passing stool, neurologic abnormalities, or other concerning changes.

The relevant signs vary with the recall hazard. A bacterial contamination event is different from a foreign-object recall or a nutrient-deficiency recall. Do not use a symptom list to diagnose the cause yourself.

If a person develops concerning symptoms after handling pathogen-contaminated food or having contact with an exposed pet, contact an appropriate health-care professional.

How to Report a Suspected Pet Food Problem to FDA

FDA accepts pet-food complaints through its Safety Reporting Portal. Helpful information includes:

  • Exact product and brand name
  • Package type
  • Lot number
  • Best-by or expiration date
  • UPC
  • Net weight
  • Purchase date and retailer
  • How the food was stored and handled
  • Photos of the package and product
  • Veterinary records, if illness occurred
  • How much product the dog consumed
  • How many animals ate the product and how many became ill

What Do FDA Recall Classes Mean?

FDA ClassGeneral FDA definition
Class I There is a reasonable probability that use of or exposure to the violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.
Class II Use or exposure may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or the probability of serious consequences is remote.
Class III Use or exposure is not likely to cause adverse health consequences.

A recall may appear in the Enforcement Report before FDA assigns a classification. An unclassified recall is not the same thing as a finding that there is no risk.

Does a Recall Mean a Dog Food Brand Is Unsafe?

Not by itself.

A recall identifies a problem affecting a particular product or production run and should always be taken seriously. But recall history is only one part of evaluating a manufacturer.

Factors such as the severity of the hazard, amount of food affected, illnesses reported, speed of detection, transparency, traceability, root-cause investigation, corrective actions, manufacturing controls and whether a problem is repeated all provide important context.

Conversely, the absence of a published recall is not proof that a product has never had a quality problem. Dog Food Scout therefore does not convert raw recall counts into a simplistic brand-safety ranking.

How Dog Food Scout Checks Recall Information

For this 2026 tracker, Dog Food Scout uses the following order of evidence:

  1. FDA company recall announcements
  2. FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine advisories
  3. FDA Enforcement Reports
  4. Manufacturer recall notices
  5. State regulatory notices when relevant
  6. Credible secondary recall reporting to locate or clarify enforcement-only records

Where public records conflict, this article favors the most current authoritative source and explicitly notes important discrepancies instead of silently selecting whichever value looks most convenient.

The FDA's veterinary recall page and its Enforcement Report serve different purposes. A recall can be genuine even when there is no separate public press release. FDA also explains that classification can occur after a firm has already initiated a voluntary recall.

Primary and Supporting Sources

Dog Food Scout takeaway: Check recalls by the exact product and lot—not merely by the brand name. Most 2026 recalls affected specific products, batches, date codes or production periods rather than every food made by the company. If you own an affected product, follow the official recall instructions and contact your veterinarian when illness or meaningful exposure is suspected.
